The Investment Answer

The Investment Answer by Daniel Goldie, CFA, CFP and Gordon S. Murray

Have you ever thought that you should be getting a better return on your money but just didn’t know where to start? If only you had the first clue about investing, you could invest online or hire a trustworthy financial advisor. The authors of The Investment Answer know better than anyone else that many investors are dreadfully unaware of investing basics and are out to make a difference.

The Investment Answer asks readers to make five basic yet important decisions to understand how they should approach investing. The advice is simple, easy-to-follow, and effective, and can lead to a more profitable portfolio for every investor. The questions are:
  • Should I invest on my own or seek help from an investment professional?
  • How should I allocate my investments among stocks, bonds, and cash?
  • Which specific asset classes within these broad categories should I include in my portfolio?
  • Should I take an actively managed approach to investing, or follow a passive alternative?
  • When should I sell assets and when should I buy more?

The authors are from two polar opposite ends of the financial spectrum. Gordon Murray spent over 25 years on Wall Street, primarily at Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and Credit Suisse First Boston, in a variety of institutional sales and management roles. His friend and co-author, Dan Goldie, is President of Dan Goldie Financial Services LLC, a registered investment advisory firm that helps individual investors and families manage their money and make smart financial decisions. Despite their different backgrounds, Murray and Goldie completely agree on one reliable approach to investing, which they explain in The Investment Answer.

It is also important to note that the two decided to write this book soon after Gordon Murray had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and learned he only had six months to live.  He passed away on January 15, 2011, but his legacy lives on in this valuable primer, which has timeless advice that benefits you, not Wall Street and the rest of the traditional financial services industry.
