If you are presented with the “Unable to Connect to the Local Backup Engine” error screen, follow these steps to get CrashPlan working again.
1. Start > Run > type “services.msc” and hit Enter
2. Find “CrashPlan Backup Service” in the list of services and double-click on it.
3. Click the Start button to ensure the service is started. Also make sure it is set to “Automatic”.
Now you can return to the CrashPlan application and have it retry to connect and it should work. If you are experience this issue with another operating system other than Windows, please refer to CrashPlan’s troubleshooting guide.
